The Progressive Unionist Party of Northern Ireland welcomes the Veterans Gateway Service

By Director of Communications

The Progressive Unionist Party of Northern Ireland wholeheartedly welcomes the recent introduction of the Veterans Gateway Service. This service is intended to be the first point of contact for any Veteran seeking support.

Veteran and PUP Armed Forces Spokesperson, Jim McCaw, stated, “We welcome the introduction of the Veterans Gateway and we urge our fellow Veterans who feel that they may require help and support of any kind to use the service.”

Jim McCaw continued by saying that, “Lord Ashcroft’s report, published in November 2016 highlighted a number of gaps and barriers to Veterans receiving help all over the UK, but the report was particularly damning for Northern Ireland. We believe that this Gateway Service is a fantastic first step, in ensuring that those hardest to reach in Northern Ireland, will find it easier to access the help and support they so richly deserve, after the selfless commitment and sacrifices they have made for our country. That said, much more needs to be done to ensure that the full implementation of the Armed Forces covenant happens, in a way that has real positive effect across all services to our veterans in Northern Ireland. The Progressive Unionist Party will continue to work with other interested parties on behalf of our Veteran community to ensure that this happens.”

Veterans can access the Veterans Gateway by calling 0808 802 1212, by Text 81212, or, by email/live chat at www.veteransgateway.org.uk where further information can also be found.
